about

VWAM was created at the Belvedere Court apartment building in Spring of 2018 in response to the Vancouver housing crisis and as part of the activism against ongoing evictions faced by Belvedere residents since 2015. The Belvedere is one of the few remaining low-rent buildings in the city and has been home to many artists and musicians over the years. In Spring 2018, residents began meeting twice a month in the Belvedere to create ambient music as a fun and healing community activity, welcoming friends and neighbors. VWAM seeks to remedy the gender imbalance in music by providing an environment where women feel welcome and at ease within a male-dominated domain. The collective operates from a belief that everyone is musical, that musical practice is a vital and essential human experience.

VWAM engages a community of active explorers in the science of music, sound and evolving human consciousness. The quartet draws on diverse artistic, musical and technical skills and backgrounds in holistically forging a distinctive sound.

VWAM’s first album, Amphibian Star, an unbridled, freewheeling dive into creative electronic music. a wide-ranging menu of soundscapes that capture the collective's energy, character and musical talent.
